on June 24, 2001, A Summer Gathering of Magical History
was a one-day magic collector convention presented by NEMCA. Open to all,
it was held at the spacious Crowne Plaza Hotel in Worcester, Massachusetts,
USA, which was also the venue for Yankee Gathering IX
in 2002.
The 2001 Summer Gathering featured lectures on two famous
magicians of a previous era. Renown magician and author
Rev. William V. Rauscher
(now a NEMCA Honorary Lifetime Member)
presented an educational and entertaining talk entitled, "When Thurston Came to
Town," a retrospective on Howard Thurston told through the reminiscences
of the family, audience, and magician contemporaries of America's foremost
magician of the early 20th century. Stanley Palm, historian and eminent magic collector, lectured on
The Great Lafayette. The day also included a buffet lunch and
late-afternoon auction of magic collectibles.
