In
many years, NEMCA has held summer get-togethers
devoted to magic history and collecting. These one-day events are
mostly attended by NEMCA members, but usually also include prominent
invited guests.The Yankee
Magic Collector is the official journal of NEMCA, published every
two years to coincide with the Yankee Gathering of that year. Each
issue contains a broad range of articles on topics of interest to magic
collectors and historians. Contributing authors are some of the
world's leading magic historians and collectors. Many back
issues of The Yankee Magic Collector are still available.
Articles are now being accepted for Issue #13, which will be distributed
at the upcoming Yankee Gathering XII. Please contact Ed Hill at
ymc@nemca.com if you would like to
submit an article.
For
Yankee Gathering XII in 2008, NEMCA has issued a
medallion honoring the Petrie-Lewis
Manufacturing Co., which was one of the most important makers of
conjuring apparatus. The medallion
is a limited edition, and is first being offered for sale at the
convention. Those that remain will be available for sale on our
Collectibles page.
We have available for sale a limited number of remaining copies
of the DVD, A Tour of the H. Adrian Smith
Library. H. Adrian Smith's library is recognized as
one of the finest privately owned collections of magic books and other
historical conjuring items in the world. He gave his
extraordinary collection to Brown University in Providence, Rhode
Island, USA, and attendees of Yankee Gathering XI in 2006 were given the
opportunity to tour the library. This DVD was given to each
registrant at the convention to supplement the live tour. It shows
Smith, a
former president of NEMCA, talking about his collection with David Downs in 1986.
The DVD is offered for sale on our
Collectibles page.
We have available for sale various
collectibles from previous Yankee Gatherings. These
include tokens, commemorative pocket mirrors, program books, key tags,
and tote bags. Proceeds from the sale of all
collectibles benefit the activities and events of NEMCA.
We have assembled some links to other
Internet resources pertaining to magic collecting and history.NEMCA
meetings are held in the marvelous meeting room of
Ray Goulet's Magic Art Studio
and Mini Museum of Magic in Watertown, Massachusetts, USA.
We are indebted to Mr. Goulet,
a charter NEMCA member, for the use of his
magical facility and for his quarter-century of ongoing tireless efforts for the club.
